Strategy Meeting, May 11, 2009, Institute for Policy Studies
KEY CONCLUSIONS on the meeting
-There is work going on internationally, regionally, and nationally to address military spending. But the focus of the peace movement has been on the Middle East and nuclear weapons.
-The challenge is to demonstrate how military spending, particularly in Asia, is intimately connected to these headline issues.
-We came up with four short-term and medium-term strategies that can be identified by this shorthand: G-2, G-3, G-20, and G-Asia. The first is an analysis, which has already been published. The second is a meeting of parliamentarians in Washington next spring. The third is a link to the G-20 meeting in the fall in New York. And the fourth is a peace concert near the Demilitarized Zone in summer 2011.
